Once a month a household gets one number for everything that happened behind the meter. Was it the old fridge? The water heater? The heatwave? Nobody knows, so people unplug phone chargers or shrug and pay.

The ironyMillions of European homes already have smart meters recording a consumption profile every 15 to 30 minutes. The data exists; nobody turns it into advice.
